stawelltalk 12  to 19 November 2013

Hello all , and welcome top this weeks news and views.  Considering this is our first meeting in two weeks it feels as though we have not had a meeting for a lot longer than that amount of time, but we have not been totally idle.

President Kim, PE Vaughan and PDG Ted attended the Foundation Seminar in Ararat on the 3rd  of  Nov, then onto the District AGM on the 10th Nov, to our own AGM Tuesday 12 Nov. 13

So there has been a fair bit of preparation for the Club AGM, and as well as that Pres Kim and Sec Ted met with Scouts Victoria,  who are to make an effort to resurrect  Cubs and Cub scouts, here in Stawell, and to see what part in that work that Rotary might play, if anything at all.  We do have some interest in the Club, and to that end an evening is arranged for the Scout folks to meet and talk to us on the 26 November 2013.

They are pulling out all stops to get things up and running, press notices flyers meetings with service clubs, schools etc. around the Town, so at least we can listen to the scout leaders and see how we might  assist, Pres Kim and Sec Ted are interested, so that is a start.

The report on the Foundation seminar has been made and was extremely well attended and appreciated. And worth the day .

The District AGM, was also well attended and our thanks to the Ararat Club for supplying the Morning tea and Lunch, a great job as usual. The AGM meeting was uneventful, and straight forward.  The following BOM Meeting was taken up is some part by explanations on the absolute necessary for the Clubs to bring  their Bylaws, into line with the latest RI Constitution, that stemmed from the Council On Legislation  earlier this year.

PDG Chris Sims is handling these delicate negotiations with the legal firm McKean Park, and has asked all clubs to prepare their by laws for the required changes, either by themselves or via the legal firm mentioned.   This process is nearing some solution as approval from RI and the Justice department of  Consumer Affairs  Victoria, have now been agreed to and actions are about to begin. So this was brought up at our AGM for resolution, and was passed.

The problems that occurred last Rotary year with RYPEN 9780, , have been re visited, with action to ensure that this action never repeats its self again, and the proper activation of a District committee structure to run the Program, amongst other things.

Reports from the Club indicated that for the most part the district is running  well, DG Ken reporting that his official  visitations have now been completed, and although he has enjoyed the interaction, he  was glad that he had completed the task.

Some general questions were brought up as a matter of information requests mainly stemming from the COL earlier in the year.  And finally the District Team Executive for the 2014-15 year was approved.

Our own AGM went well, with no dramas, PE Vaughn was formally able to announce his executive team for 2014-15, after the nominations committee recommendation of PP Pauline Shirrefs as president for the , 2015-16 year, was accepted by the meeting, with acclimation.

PE Vaughan named,  PDG Ted Gaffney as Secretary, PP Ken Agnew as A/ Treasurer, PP Pauline as PN, PP Des Pickford as Sgt at Arms,  and PP John Artz [ T.B.C as Foundation chair]

The Directors elected by the members were,  were nominated in a block, PP John Launder, PP Ken Agnew, PP Kevin Erwin, & Rtn Robin Kelly.  PE Vaughan will decide on placements and notify the Club at the next Board of Management meeting, 3 December 2013.

Congratulations were offered to the retiring Directors and members of the Board for their excellent work over the past three years, and our thanks for their efforts.  To those taking up the reins at the Club for the first time or perhaps for the first time in a new position, the Chair offered grateful thanks for their willingness to put their hand up for leadership positions within the Club.

Other things at the Club AGM were approved as are required Our Honorary members , with the addition of Mrs Debbie Gehan for her service to the Club.

The Matter of fine monies was mentioned as well with the continuation of the present action as a donation to TRF. Sec Pointed out that this was not a matter for the AGM and asked that this be deferred to the Board meeting of the 3 Dec 13 and that was approved.

And the approval of the documentation tabled by the secretary for action by the Legal team in Melbourne to ensure all is well.  It was also mentioned that McKeon Park will assist at no cost any alterations or additions for the next three years.

And so we have our first meeting back after the events of the past couple of weeks, and we look forward to the actions that are about to start as the warmer climate sweeps in.

And we are off and running again.

At this point can we thank the members for their continued involvement  in Rotary, outside of  the meetings, the hours spent have been quite amazing and deserve the thanks offered.

Our Catering manager young Robin, has been in the wars, we was assisting in some volunteer work and unfortunately found himself hitting the ground with his shoulder, and the diagnosis  seems to be torn Shoulder ligaments, and that is a real Ouch,  so take care Robby.

A late note to our AGM, that one or two of those elected were done so in abstenture.  Approvals of acceptance were gained from all likely members prior to the opening of the AGM.  Also that Mrs Gehan is to be invited next week to be presented with her Pin and certificate.

Well that all for another week in Rotary, we hope that our newsletter/bulletin, has found you well while we would like to remind you that,

The richest people,  are not those with the most,  but those that need the least.

Have a great week in Rotary   Ed.
