stawelltalk 26 Nov to 3 Dec 2013
Hello to all members friends and families, well it is getting close now don’t really want to count how many sleeps , but I bet the younger members of our families will know, and to that end a reminder to the members about the MOW Hampers for the lone folks, at this festive time of the year. Pres Kim is the person driving this so please contributions or DIK by the 10 December to the Pres, we are to supply 16 this year.
And on the similar track Please don’t forget the little ones at the other end of the scale, PDG Ted is looking after the Soft Toy, Christmas gift for the littlies in the community who otherwise may not get a present at all. His also will finish on the 10 December 13, and then be handed to PP Ken Agnew for distribution to those most in need.
This week we Started off with a special general meeting to deal with two resolutions pertaining to the constitution, model rules and by laws, due to the changes from the COL earlier this year. It has been a big job, but one thing is clear the recommended by laws have been pruned severely, and so there will be more work to come on them, however the special meeting was concluded in good time, then we went on to our guest speaker from Scouts Victoria, however a little more on that shortly.
Thanks to The members including PE Vaughan and RTN Robin, who went to the working bee in Navarre Rd, Ed called in and the report is that he would like to buy land off the person who said the Grass was 5feet tall, closer in most areas to 6.feet and a fire hazard of the very worst kind , as the house surrounded by all this grass is an old timber dwelling, the whole place was a fire hazard, any way well done to the Police, CFA, and Rotary people who went out to the site and have made a huge difference. In the end Robbie said he only had to cook for 5 or 6 people as most did their bit and headed off for home, but extremely well done to everyone.
PP Pauline has had some trouble with her back and hips again and had to have more treatment, and although incapacitated for two or three days, was back painting at her home by Friday last, she is a tiger, when right..
Speaking of trouble we send our very best wishes to Bill, who was involved in a car crash in Ballarat today [Tuesday] he is OK if a little sore, but his little car may well be a write off. So take care Bill, and the members send their very kind regards. If there is anything you need, we are as far away as a phone call.
So next week the 3 December is our last board meeting for this Year, so again we are asking that any reports be in with the Sec by the end of this week, for circulation.
We received a report on the make up of the sub committee for the relief project for the people of the Philippines, and some idea of their forward planning so that was interesting as well.
We will also ratify a few of those things held over, as seen on the proposed agenda, then of course we have two meetings in 5 Days, Tuesday 10th, where we understand Mr Jamie Erwin will be present as a guest of the Club, and our Christmas break up at the Stawell Christmas race meeting on the 14th December.
And now we move in to the dark recess of Normans Nonsense THE BLONDE GETS EVEN!!!!!
TRUCKERS BREAKFAST
A trucker came into a Truck Stop Cafe’ and placed his order. He said I want three flat tires, a pair of headlights and a pair of running boards.’
The brand new blonde waitress, not wanting to appear stupid, went to the kitchen and said to the cook, ‘This guy out there just ordered three flat Tires, a pair of headlights and a pair of running boards. What does he think this place is, an auto parts store?’
‘No,’ the cook said. ‘Three flat tires… mean three pancakes; a pair of headlights… is two eggs sunny side up; and a pair of running boards… are slices of crisp bacon!
‘Oh… OK!’ said the blonde. She thought about it for a moment and then spooned up a bowl of beans and gave it to the customer.
The trucker asked, ‘What are the beans for, Blondie?’
(you will love this …! )
She replied, ‘I thought while you were waiting for the flat tires, Headlights and running boards, you might gas up as well !
We had the have the pleasure of the company of Mr Jon Peart , Regional Commissioner Western Region, Scouts Victoria. Jon is a long time person in scouting, and he is attempting to speak to various organizations around the town to garner support for the raising of a Scout Troop here in Stawell. Jon ‘s talk was supported by a power point presentation, and from our perspective he was looking to Rotary and other service clubs to become support people , and spent some time explaining the Different age groups involved in scouting and then went on to the Controlling body most particularly at Group level. Scouting is Gender neutral these days as against the situation in the past, and is broken down into 5 age groups
Joey Scout Mob, 6 to 8 years.
Cub Scouts, 8 to 11 years
Scout leader/ troop 12 to 15 years
Venture r Scouts, 16 to 18 Years
Rover Scouts, 18 to 26 Years
So on this basis there is something for every age group from 6 to 26 years .
It is also interesting to note that scouting has increased in numbers by 20% in the past 7 years, to almost 20, 000. It is also interesting that the scouting organization involves not just the youngsters but their Parents, Family members, members of the local community, business people, professionals and many adults that have an interest in the governing of what the youngsters will train in and what activities they might be involved in, this insures an even interest across the Movement, driven by the Community as much as the youngster them selves. It is not a new idea for gaining adult interest in a group, but it is fair to say that the emotive aspect of this groups organization is the catalyst for the adult interest , our Kids.!! And if it is for the youngsters then it will get the support required. Our Thanks to Jon for his talk, and his 52 year involvement with the Scouts came through.
So that’s all from us this week , just a reminder that communications will remain open over the festive season, if any member, should have any reason to make contact or there is any news worthy items for the Bulletin. Phone the Ed. In the mean time Remember,
Wounds heal and become scars, but there are no scars on the heart, for it never heals from the loss of love.
Cheers all have a great week in Rotary. Ed.
