STAWELL TALK 28 JAN TO 4 FEB, 2014
28 JAN TO 4 FEB 2014
Hello to all our friends, well we have just survived the heat, and now we are in for another dose, so keep a sharp eye out for the very young and the older citizens, when you are out and about.
Again PP Val has been active in the promotional side of the Club, with attendance at the great western Races on the Australia Day weekend, showing the colours so to speak aided by a number of the members was able to raise a substantial amount, at a BBQ, Raffle ticket Sales and Bucket rattling to aid the fires, well done every one and again our thanks to PP Val.
Speaking of PP Val, she phoned the Ed. very excited to inform him that her sister Margaret had been awarded the Senior citizen of the year in the city of Casey, so very well done to Margaret, particularly as one realises the traumatic conditions that the Family including Margaret and Val, have gone through over the past 18 months.
At the Australia day celebrations, in Stawell, the Rotary Club received another mention, with an award for the volunteer group/s within the town. Again well done to everyone, these things just don’t happen, and the effort over this past year although, seemingly slow, over the winter, has in fact yielded great results. Well done to all again.
Next week we are to have a Board Meeting, with several items as mentioned last evening listed down for further discussion, including a film evening, at the Town Hall, that Dr Norman hopes to have many members from other clubs attending, but a little more on that a little later.
Some further decisions on monies raised, for the dual purposes of the Philippines disaster, and the fire related assistance required on the ground in the shire.
Some more news on the medical front, Pres Kimberley is to go to Ballarat Wednesday, to visit her Orthopaedic surgeon Mr Nelson, and hopefully off for a MRI scan on her Knee, injured in a fall. It has failed to respond to treatment, so after the scan a decision is to be made as t what will be done.
PP Pauline has suffered in pain due to a serious problem in her spine, and all things being equal will be heading into surgery, on 10 Feb, and we all wish her well for that, and hope for her recovery in about 12 weeks after that to be successful and that it leaves her pain free. Although not active for the winter Olympics Pauline has made herself available for Planning, typing, applications for Grants and that sort of work, that she will still be able to carry out, so that is very good of her to make that offer, Thank you PP Pauline..
Rtn Robin is off to have further tests on his right eye, and possibly some action on that front as well. So our kindest regards to them all for speedy recoveries including PP Wilton who was still having trouble with his Knee after his accident prior to Christmas. So to all our friends who are not well please get back to good health ASAP.
Also speaking of Rtn Robin our catering manager, he changed the menu for last evenings meals and put on a beautiful cold salad, followed by fresh fruit, a splendid turn out from the Boss, and from a person not noted for eating vegetables, the Ed scoffed down his tea with some relish and enjoyment, while many comments were passed as to the excellence of the meal, ta mate.
And so to some other news our next group meeting will be on Monday, Feb 10, 2014. Further details are to follow, but the venue is to be at Buangor, but more on that as it comes to hand. The main thrust is to inform the members that the meeting on the 10th will replace our usual meeting to would normally be held on Tuesday the 11th. Do not forget the day may be different and the venue but this is still our normal weekly meeting, so don’t miss it if at all possible, transport to be organised and details notified.
Also a reminder on the Jazz Festival for Sunday 9th February 2014, this is an all hands to the wheel for one of our major fundraisers for the year , so this will be discussed further next week, but be aware of that date.
The next event will be the Antiques and Collectables fair long weekend in March, more on that later,
As most would be aware PDG Ted has been spending time in Dimboola at his sisters home, and after having his car serviced and some adjustments made he had to have the Car re Shod, this was done last Wednesday morning, 94 Ks later there was a huge bang, he pulled over only to find a brand new, rear flat tyre, well cut a long story short then tyre was returned to the supplier, who replaced it with out question, but pointed out that if this had have happened at speed and been on the front steer, it could have had very serious, so there you go, you don’t have to be lucky to win tatts.
Our speakers this week were Anna and Nelson , brother and sister from the Vietnam tour, their mum Donna and the third generation Grandma Norma, the two youngsters had only prepared the Presentation the night before, but did a brilliant job. The presentation was done like a diary with photo’s amongst the narrative, the youngsters enthusiasm was contagious and as well as the wording on the screen the presentation was sprinkled with stories and anecdotes from the tour, that were not only informative but gave it a warmth of knowledge and experience that had made such an impression on them, and they wanted to share it with us.
A creative and interesting record of yet another of the tours, that had its share of good and not so good but let us not forget these tours are not about us but the youngsters and their illumination of the world around them and what they already have by comparison to some others in our region, it is in this experience that we seek to excel and in that the tour was a success as evidenced by the sense of fun from the youngsters point of view, and the fact they have seen and learnt for them selves that we come from a good place and the advantages that are available to them here indicate that the main purpose o the exercise was achieved .
As pointed out there were areas that can be improved, and they have been documented and will be dealt with prior to any further tours, and this is good as it increases the tour program in value for the youngsters that will follow, while the good things can also be studied, so that the whole project can be based in that experience area, and as a result to better the program.
So our thanks to the youngsters Anna and Nelson, Mum Donna for spending their times with us last evening.
Last night was the last we will see PP John L and Su Qin for 5 [to 6] weeks, as they are leaving Wednesday for their trip to China, we wish them well, and hope the trip is an enjoyable one, another trip is for PP Pauline once she has recuperated is overseas as well, so the world awaits, we suspect that Kaye –belle may be getting away as well.. So to any and all that are to leave our fair shores enjoy the experience and where ever your destination and come back to us happy and well.
And now it is time,…. time for Normans Nonsense.
This item was reported from Brisbane, it deals with a husband and wife who drove to the shopping centre to do the weekly shop, only to have their car break down. The husband told his wife to go on and do the shopping while he fixed the car.
The wife returned to find a group of people standing around the car , as she got closer she could see a pair of legs protruding from under the Car.
Unfortunately the legs were covered in shorts but no underwear, and his private parts were on public display. Unable to stand the embarrassment, she stepped forward and quickly put her hand up his shorts a neatly tucked everything back into place.
On regaining her feet, she looked across, the bonnet and found herself looking at her husband, who had been standing by watching. The RACQ mechanic however , had to have several stitches in his forehead.
Well that’s about all folks for this week, have a good week in Rotary, cheers Ed
