4 TO 11 MARCH 2014

Hello all, well we had our latest board meeting, and although the attendance was depleted we still had a quorum, and the board was very smooth and over in no time at all, So unlike most Boards this was short to the point, and no disagreements change, to the usual, but we covered a good deal of ground as we will see shortly.

PP Pauline is progressing well as reported and is well enough to host a fireside at her home on Thursday evening next.

Rtn Kaye is caring for the “Max”,  and Pres will have her  new car shortly, so it is all happening, and brother  John will be in country on Saturday 8 march 2014.

John must still be getting our E-Mails as he sent an apology for last evenings meeting, now some would say that is the right thing to do, but from ‘China”, that is outstanding.  thanks PP John L.

Big bad Bruce visited last evening a pleasure as always, he must be getting regular we saw his name on his favorite chair, Bruce is a Member over Bendigo way, and is working with the Shire, and has become yet another happy face around the place.

And finally happy birthday to Dr Norman Castle, March 4:  Norman was celebrating with the lovely Noelene and his daughter , who came all the way down from Queensland, to be with her Father for his birthday, so that would have been lovely for him.  Congratulations Rtn Dr Norman.

Speaking of Norman if your game to read on, we will delve into the darkness of Normans nonsense.

The wooden  ball:
An old bloke  walks into the barbershop for a shave and  haircut, he tells the barber he probably  can’t get all of his whiskers off because his  cheeks are wrinkled from age.
The barber gets  a little wooden ball from a cup on the shelf and  tells him to put it inside his cheek to spread  out the skin.
When he’s finished, the old man  tells the barber that was the cleanest shave  he’s had in  years.
But he  wanted to know what would have happened If he  had swallowed that little ball, the barber  replied,   “Just bring it back in a couple of days  like everyone else does…”
Thank you, P—-  I think.

And so on to a few of the items dealt with at the Board.

First thing to say is the dramatic difference in the bank balance and the  E &C account in particular, all though there is still monies to go out it still looks a lot better than it did, with more to come.

This brought to notice monies still outstanding that the Treasurer is to follow up upon.   The Film evening  requested by Rtn  Dr Norman is still on hold, as is the testing of equipment to show it, so both of these items have been held over for a further report at a later date.

A mentioned in PP Pauline’s report, a 60th anniversary meeting is to take place at her home Thursday 6 March 14 at 7.30 PM  so those members of the sub committee , please note this is an important meeting, that requires your attendance, “with scones”

The secretaries report honed in on the old problem, membership, and the fact that we must think out side of the box, and talk to people if we want to know their intentions.  As pointed out we have lost at least three people, well known to us, simply because  we did not ask them,  and one has gone on to become president of their club.

So it seems that we need to speak to those people close to us, family, friends acquaintances, they can only say yes, no or maybe, but at least you will then know,  Sec finished by asking everyone to re-read his comments and examples and put them into practice, and that is a good call.

Other reports came from Community, PR, International, and the President, Vocational and Foundation conspicuous by their absence. During correspondence semi final detail of the Rec Vehicles Fellowship visit to the Grampians on 15 May 14  was received and has sparked the interest of the members with  the proposed  cancellation of our normal meeting of the 13 instant, and  celebrate a meeting with the members of the Fellowship, on the 15th,  this will be debate at the next board after thought by the Members.

Another area was a request by Stawell West for us to supply and cook a BBQ [ we assume at no cost to the school]  at the school athletics day at north park, on 28 May 14.  This will be also decided on the next board, a thought was expressed that we could certainly supply the BBQ at no cost but manning it may be a different proposition. Particularly form 10.30 AM in the morning.

The antiques and collectibles fair has been cancelled, [for some weeks] due to lack of support,  but one of our friends of Rotary, heard an add over the radio for the show, when notified the club It reacted by checking the web site, and found a host of information most of which was incorrect, this was left with PR PP Val to remove , however this underlines the reasons for everything that goes out of the Club to be approved by the President first.

At this point the club does not know who, or when this information came to be at the radio station, It was not from PR or the club in particular,  but enough to say that if the correct procedure had have been followed it would not have occurred., or at least if they did the details would have been correct.  Investigations continue, but it is certain that no request for approval was garnered by the radio station in question. Meaning of course that anyone can write anything about anyone with impunity, and that a real  worry.

And yet another point is that this is an unsupervised advertisement, that anyone can put in using the name of the Club or anyone in the club, both in the form of a web site or over a community announcement.

The Ballarat South raffle has concluded for another year , with Horsham again taking the hon ours, but it is a wonderful exercise by the B’Rat South club and we offer our thanks for their continued support.

The art show was discussed at some length, covering matters , such as the Judge, raffle, Transport additional arms and legs with the loading and transport of the equipment. The major point that  President Kim mentioned was the manning of the show, she has asked for a half day minimum from all members, pointing out that PDG Ted would not be in attendance as he is going away at Easter [for the first times in a decade or more]

What was not said was that with numbers decreasing the show will become to big for the Club to man, if the support from all members is not forthcoming. So one can understand where the secretary was coming from in his report.

The Jazz Festival was again an outstanding success, and has for the amount of work for,  against the financial gain, our major fundraiser. So there is more for  thought , by the members.

MOW Thursday Rtn Robin, Friday Pres Kim.  Thanks guys!!.

It was mentioned that the speaker “Michael” that the Club had, from red cross international, a couple of weeks ago, has been approached to return to the Club to complete his chat to us.  Such was his impact and we look forward to that event in a month or so.  Thanks to Rtn Robin.

Pres Kim suggested that a Mini Golf Tournament be arranged as a fundraiser, to be held in Halls Gap, nothing further has been done at this time, but with the assistance of the guru of the golf ball, PP Des, it was thought it just might work, approval was granted by the board to investigate the possibilities and report back to the Club as soon as possible.

Finally the date of the next Board is scheduled for 1 April  14

And so that is the main thrust of the meeting on 4 March 14, so take care every one and have a great week in Rotary.

Remember :  If you are going to work, make sure it’s in a team situation.  Then if anything goes wrong you have someone else to blame.

Cheers  Ed
