ROTARY STAWELL INC, BULLETIN 18 TO 25 OCTOBER 2011
Hello all, are we fit well happy and dancing? we hope so, well a busy meeting this last time so we had better get on.
Photo the world has been waiting for District Governor Brian and Club President Val, at the DG Visit. Think some are still trying to get over the visit such was its success. Have to apologise that in all the remarks and news last week, we failed to mention our RYE Student Jacob, very sorry for that
So now down to a bit of last week, the Quiz BIZ
Answers. Questions were, there is a position in Rotary that only one person has achieved, what is the name of that position as in President or Director.
That position is ‘President-emeritus’, awarded in 1912, to who? Yes Paul Harris, and up to this point no other Rotarian has, and possibly will never receive this accolade, again.
This week’s Quiz BIZ , Paul Harris, had a second Christian name , what was it? And for an extra three hundreds and thousands on your fairy bread next week in what year was Paul ? Harris, born? Good hunting for the answers to those questions.
And so to our last meeting, it took the form of an assembly so we could receive reports that were unavailable at the last board, and to tidy up a few small items.
Assistance for Pres. Val was the first order of business at the Stawell show on Saturday 22 October, to assist with selling raffle tickets in the B’rat South car raffle. David and Vaughan were kind enough to put their hand up, so thanks very much gents, And thanks also to Kimberley and Pauline. Who had already offered..
Dates for events has become a touch haphazard, with so much work on, and that needs to be ` straighten out again, Forward Planning has always been, one of the real strengths of this Club, and we have been so busy that we need to draw back and reorganize our events , programs and projects. Easter next year was seen as the central point from which we are to plan forward and back, events, that date is 6 April 2012 Good Friday. Pres. Val wants the Club to slow down its work load in the second half of the year to remove some stress from the membership. And so we can expect a tightening of the timing of events, back to our old and trusted style.
Membership, while this matter is still the most important task within the Club, it has suffered the same fate as our Forward Planning, with no action since June, last. As a Club we are to move back into that mode and re start the push to increase our membership, with everyone’s involvement.
A lengthy discussion on some aspects of RYE took place with some decisions to be made at the meeting, mainly dealing with remuneration for none Rotarian Families, when hosting a RYE Student.
PPE Heritage Committee are seeking expressions of interest for a program to upgrade old buildings farm machinery and the like, anything of Historical significance, we to help if possible.
Club clothing was put to the Club for a decision in two parts; 1] do the members support the idea of us all using a same colour and design top as in a Polo Shirt. And 2] if so what colour, keeping in mind that the idea is to stand out and be seen. Decision, at next full meeting.
International project, will the Club support a program of support for Ishta’s work on the Thai Burma border. We to hold this over, until PP John returns from China

Saving stamps as a passive Club fundraiser, approved and all asked to be involved PP Pauline offered to assist with some number of stamps, she has already been saving.

BBQ of a Saturday morning for a couple of hours at Mitre 10 and Safeway, to be started, soon as we are coming into the better weather.
A brief overlay of several items was given, The Junior Golf Clinic, has been cancelled the number of kids turning up could not justify the continuance of the program, a letter has been sent to the shire explaining this and giving up on the very kind Grant support, as offered by the Shire.
The job at the special school , we are waiting for equipment to arrive to finish off.
Smart Start, PP Des has in hand , is to organize a packing evening during next week at home one evening.. all hands on deck for that , many hands making light work
Christmas break, where when etc. .members to come back to the next meeting with ideas
.

District Stuff:
Not a lot happening this month, as a rule this is a quiet month for district to catch its breath before the push to the New Year. There is a RYE Planning weekend in Port Fairy on the 22-23 October 2011, and as far as we know that’s is about all, well that all we will need to know about.
Club & Local Stuff: As listed on page 1 and above.
And Finally, Remember:
The price we pay for not being interested in politics, is that we end up being governed by our inferiors.
