December is set aside for Rotary clubs and districts worldwide to demonstrate their commitment to Family and Community, via projects, activities and events, in celebration of family, while the service to community should encourage the ideal of service to the personal, business and community life of all Rotarians.  This by extension allows the opportunity for every member to exemplify “Service above Self”, as part of the social commitment to their local community.

Hello to all you good people out there, are you ready for Christmas? Well we hope you are soon and that the whole festive season turns out wonderfully well for you and your family and friends.

Our last meeting was a Board and a bit of news out of that shortly.  ‘Limpy J’ is coming good and can move about quite a lot easier now, one wag in the Club said that John should only play with Lego blocks not the concrete variety in future,   Hold on to that thought John.

QuizBIZ Well it was just a bit too easy, last week’s question was simple,  who was the Man credited with the concept of Foundation, , In what year did he suggest it, and  who and how much was the first contribution made?

Answers are, The 6th President of Rotary, Arch C. Klumph, and the suggestion was made in 1917 for the formation of an “Endowment Fund”.

The first contribution was by the Rotary Club of Kansas, in 1918 and the amount was US$26.50.

Yes so easy, we really must toughen up, and for the last one for 2011, here it is.

How many World Presidents have come from Australia? What were their names? and years of their Presidencies? And for that extra potato chip at Christmas Dinner, what states in Australia did they come from?  No clues this week.

We are still missing a few members although it was a very good turn up for the board, with only one missing.  But a good meeting with plenty of outlet for the members to make comment, and we did have one member that took full advantage of that opportunity, and this forced the meeting into quadruple overtime, no names of course, but it will be interesting in 2013/4 when the then President takes charge of meetings, think we will have to bring a sleeping bag or a swags, to the Board meetings..  Tsk, Tsk.

Enough frivolity, some of the areas covered included Meals on Wheels, and the agreement was for the Club to continue with the program.  A further interesting out come to this discussion was the arrangement of the MOW roster.  This is to be in the hands of the Monthly Program Manager, with the provision that if those agreeing to the delivery find they can’t do it, it will fall on them to find someone who can.

PE John announced the positions for his team for his term in office 2012/13,  On hearing the Team it seemed a very good line up, but John suggested that the positions were not set in concrete, and if anyone wanted to comment or suggest a change then to contact him.  It must be said that there seemed to be no objection from the Floor.

A discussion on the Art show stands needed a firm result as it had gone on for too long without resolution, suggestion approved was to repaint the boards by spraying them and the stands, and that this may be away for the VECAL students at the secondary college to come and do the job , while learning some newer skills, on a community project.  Rtn Wendy,  to establish the availability of the students, Job to be completed by the end of February 2012.

PP Des has organised to have the boxes for the wheel chairs for kids, transported to WA,  sec to arrange the packaging etc.

A couple of reminders,  the Christmas break up see below, and the Chrissie Hampers, we are making up 15 this year, so please deliver your goodies to PN Kim this coming week, or deliver to Mum Debbie’s home before the 20th.

Club Polo shirts, this action was held over, until Pres. Val has time to deal with the project.

A further suggestion is for the formation of a Knitting Fellowship.  More work on this is required but it seems to be harder to set up that what one thinks, more to follow.

Grant application, approval was granted for Rtn Wendy to apply for a community grant from the Gold mine, to kick off the fundraising for the “Schoolies” trip, overseas, to assist in giving these youngsters a taste of life in a country not as fortunate as our own, to work within that community with the less privileged young people, and generally to give them some small taste of the world outside of their comfort zone, at home.   It was further suggested and agreed, that some contribution from the John Harris Fund might be used for this purpose, as well.   Question of support will be put to local authorities and organizations, while the youngsters involved will be fundraising as well to assist in covering costs…

60th Anniversary of the Club.  This date falls on Tuesday 17 June 2014, a suggestion has been put forward that we seriously start thinking of what we might do to mark this event.  Very quickly several ideas were put forward, ranging from our own ladled Bottles of port, to an update of the 50 year booklet, a celebration of ginormous size, to name just a few.  But it is up to the members to come up with ideas, so any thoughts please contact the secretary.

Speaking of the secretary and other positions within the Club, some of our newer people may be under a miss apprehension that the team read out by the PE is it and in place as of now.  No, No-No, this happens as of midnight on the 1st July 2012, until then the members in the positions that you all know and love are still in place.  Hope  that clears up a few things on that score.

Normans Nonsense:

Talking to Norman, the other day, I said Norm are you able to help me,  I am having trouble understanding  women.

Norm said, the trick is to know how they think,

It is only a woman that can understand

Did you know, That Friend of Rotary “our “Joyce, has been beavering away and has 14 or so teddy bears, and as many knee rugs for the wheels chairs for Kids program in W.A.  Also a  bag of soft toys, for the toys for toys program.  What a wonder Joyce is, and we are sure that we speak for the whole Club when we say thank you Joyce for the dedication to a task that effects so many that don’t know her, or she them.  Without doubt, Rotary at work at the highest level, thank you Joyce.

Wotsgoingon. Well its Rtn Noelene’s month, December Family and Community month.

13 December   Fellowship evening,  and the support act is an educational exercise, should be interesting, PDG Ted has on flash drive the speech made in 1933 by Paul Harris and that will be a special part of that evening as well.  Most Rotarians have never heard Paul Harris’s voice, so this will be good, not forgetting that the speech was recorded, 78 years ago, but it is still clear enough.  Should be good, to hear our founder, we also will have our NYSF Student to have a chat with us

20 December   Christmas Break up at Norman and Noelene’s Home, same times as usual, and this is our Christmas shindig, so the entry is a soft toy, and BYO F & R [BRING YOUR OWN FOOD FOR A BBQ, & refreshments.]  Salad for the boys, and sweets for the Girls, Norman is to supply the Champers, and to add a little.  Don’t forget the invite family and friends including Judi, could we come along wearing something Christmassy?

Also a reminder that our first meeting back is a turnout at PN Kimberley’s home  BYO F G & G , more to follow, soon.

Well folks have a great week in Rotary, enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. Jingle Bells deck the Halls and all that.

Remember, “To have loved and lost, is better,  than never having loved at all”.

Cheers dears   Ed.
