Hello to all, out there, are you ready for Christmas? It is getting to the point that if you are not ready in the day or so, you’re not going to make it, and if you are ,well done, and if not Well we hope you are soon and that the whole festive season turns out wonderfully well for you and your family and friends, we are sure it will, as we all have had a wonderful Christmas present,  finally there has been some uncommon, common sense shown,  and congratulations to those involved,  we are truly great present..

‘Limpy J’ is coming good and can move about quite a lot easier now, one wag in the Club said that John should only play with Lego blocks not the concrete variety in future,   Hold on to that thought John.

QuizBIZ Well it was easy really, last week’s question was,

How many World Presidents have come from Australia? What were their names? Years  of their Presidencies? And for that extra potato chip at Christmas Dinner, what states in Australia did they come from?  What? You don’t know?  No Chrissie pud for you!!

Well the answer is 4:  the first one might be a little less known to newer members, however, they were [1] Angus S. Mitchell, 1948-49, Rotary Melbourne Victoria.  [2] Clem Renouf, 1979-80, Nambour Queensland.  [3]  Royce Abbey, 1988-89, Essendon, Victoria.

and [4] Glen W. Kinross, 1997-98, Hamilton, Brisbane Queensland.  There may be debate about a fifth RI President in 1959-60, being Harold T. Thomas, but this would be seen as inaccurate, as President Thomas was from the Auckland Club, New Zealand. So there we are, for this 2011 year, but we will be back in 2012.  So we hope you have enjoyed our little snippets of History, as  it is no load to carry. And so, after last night, more work for the poor old Ed with now another book of the quiz to be made for new members, we hope the next person does not get this kind of work load.

PE John announced the positions for his team for his term in office 2012/13, the week before last  and as noted at the time there seemed to be little if any objections,  not that there should be really, but circumstances have a way of spoiling the best laid plans at times,  but nothing from PE John as yet.

A discussion on the Art show stands was also raised at the board meeting; we have had a report back from Rtn Wendy re that matter.  The outcome is positive with the VCAL Students, Co-Ordinator stating that it would be a great thing for the students to be involved in, and would be done at or about early February.  Great result all round as it brings the youngsters into a community program, will assist their skills base, give them a great deal of satisfaction, and ownership to the Job, and we will have nice fresh boards for the Art show,  win- win all-round,  thank to all for their support and to Rtn Wendy for her enthusiasm, and organizational abilities. PP Des is on to another direction, all together,   and we shall wait on that as well with some interest.

President Val had one or two Items that required our support and we will hear a little more on those after the Christmas, New Year break.

Next week:  the big night, and we have some celebrating to do as well, as being our Christmas break up don’t forget, BYO Salad from the Boys, Sweets from the Girls and what -ever you may want to BBQ and for your libation, soft or hard, Some good news has leaked out Arthur and Family will be there, and Kaye and Joyce, Kaye may be a little late but she will be there. And won’t it be good to them all.  So we will be at the usual time 6.30 PM at Norman and Noelene’s home.

We must thank Norman and Noelene for opening their home to us, for the celebrations, of the Festive Season, and break up for the season of the Club,  Thank you both very much indeed.

Well , about last week:

Last week was a short business session followed by a couple of things, from our Club Historian,  PDG Ted.  One of interest was a speech by Paul Harris,  in 1933,  it was quite a famous speech in several ways, First it was aimed at non Rotarians, Second it was broadcast around the world by Radio,  and became known at “The  Audience of the Air”  speech .  The broadcast was made during the 1933 convention in Boston.  Third, it contained one of the  many Paul Harris’, great quotes, “Love of your fellow Man” .

It was interesting if for no other reason that most of us today have never heard the voice of our founder, Paul Harris.  The sound was not all that good, but it was recorded 78 years ago, [when the historian was a mere lad] but we hope everyone enjoyed at least hearing our founders Mid-West tones.. But an apology, the sound was not good and Ok for those sitting close but not so for those further away, we will make every effort to relay this speech via a better system so that it can be heard by all.

Our Club historian also had some show and tell stuff.  The  Club retained copy, 1966 printing,  of a little book that kept the Club involved for better than a decade, 1965/6  to 1978. “Sign posts”.

And as far as we know the only surviving copy of the 1973, Original Art show catalogue, interesting

the show had 474 paintings on display. The master copy of the 50th year book, and the sign in or visitor’s book, that commences at our charter evening in September 1954.  Also notification, that the 60th book was in the early stages of being written, with a request to get hold of photographs, and memorabilia from the past, made by the Ed.  If you can help we would be most grateful.

It was sad that we could not have our NYSF Student with us Marlee with us, she was to attend but, school matters arose that she could not miss, but we have made arrangements to see and hear her in February.

Wotsgoingon:

20th December 2011Celebration,  celebration, celebration.  And then, we are off till the month of January:

Well here’s another one that is coping it easy  PDG Ted, is to look after January  Rotary Awareness Month.

17 Jan 2012,  BBQ at Kimmy’s,  in Ligar St .  Same arrangements as for our Christmas turn out please..

24 Jan:  Board meeting.

31 January,  No Meeting at home:  we will be off to the wilds of Maryborough, for a group 7 meeting on the 2 February 2012.

Please don’t forget:  At our break up, Toys for tots, wonderful story the Ed was up the street and Kay caught up and gave him a couple of beautiful soft toys, while talking, a Lady approached and asked If we were  collecting the toys for the children, we said yes “Toys for Tots, she went to her car and came back with two little bags of things for the Littlies,  how about that? A wonderfully warm act  By Mrs Dot Gready,  un solicited and with a smile,  a quiet gift,  on behalf of the youngsters , thank you so much  Mrs Gready.

Again any last minute fillers for the Hampers for our MOW folk please deliver to “Mum Debbie’s Place in Napier St before next Tuesday the 20th, and thank you to those members that have made a contribution already.

And finally the BBQ at 502 those who are available, you know who you are,  8.15 AM  at 502 please,  450 to cook for , Uncle Des is bringing the BBQ Trailer  so it will only take a few minutes to get it up and running, so please be on time.

And so as we approach the end of this 2011 year, may we again say to our Members and friends, it has been a n honour and a pleasure to be involved with such people as yourselves, and to you all, I can do nothing but wish you all the things you may wish for yourselves.  Have a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year, with your family and friends, and if travelling on the roads, please stay safe.. Thank you all.   Ed.

Remember:, Most of us can say the same thing,  that we have had a good  life [to now];  we just wish we had realised it a bit  sooner.   Cheers to all Ed:
