Well here we are again and we hope you are “all good”
We did not have a meeting this week due to the Cup Day holiday, but this next week will be busy as we are to move into our AGM. To that end, documentation for that purpose has been sent out a short while ago. As mentioned at the last Board meeting, The Bulletin is an important communication tool for the Club and at those times during the year, when we are doing other things than at our meetings it is important that every one reads their copy of the bulletin, or at the very least checks their E-Mails on a regular basis.
We would not suggest that everyone should be like the Secretary who can check the e-mail anywhere up to 40 times a day, but we do recommend that regular perusal is made a habit, because it is here that information and news is disseminated to you, and we don’t want members unaware of what is going on in their Club, and committing fineable offences like attending a non-meeting, or turning up to an event on the wrong day, or place! Who, I say who, would do such a thing?
Well now off the soap box and on to this week’s,
Quiz BIZ: Answers to last week were that Paul Harris passed away on 27 January 1947,and for the Grand prize where was he buried. Paul Harris was buried near his long-time friend, also one of the original ‘4’, Silvester Schiele, [Who as an aside was the first President] in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Blue Island City, Southern Chicago Illinois. USA.
This week, In the early days of 1947 prior to Paul Harris departure from this mortal coil, he wrote an article for the “Rotarian “ in which he mentions how many clubs and members there were in Rotary International at that moment in time. Your questions this week are what were those numbers, in January 1947, how many Clubs, and how many members? in round figures.
Well the Chinese Festival is certainly gathering speed as we are now only 12 days, away, in fact without giving anything away from Rtn Kim, it is looking great, with little additions an changes here and there Kim is at the tweaking stage and that good, should be all very exciting. Kim will be putting names to jobs this week as well so be ready to jump in if and when asked.
But before that event, next week the 8th Nov., will be our AGM, and a time to think of the future of our Club, please don’t be afraid to take on a new or different task or challenge, if asked to do so, this is how we grow in Rotary, and with a wealth of newer members that have come to the Club and or joined us over the past year/s, we could not be in a better position. We may sound like one of those Vampires from the movies, but new blood is good, so if asked or approached, take the challenge, you may even discover abilities and talents about yourself, you were not aware of, and you could be taking the first steps to higher honours in Rotary at the same time. Good luck.
Norman’s Nonsense
The other week when I was talking to Norm about going or not going into care, he told me to take it easy, you’re not old until,
Your friends compliment you on your new Alligator shoes, and you’re barefoot,
or
When a sexy babe catches your eye and your pacemaker opens the garage door.
or
When you’re cautioned to slow down , by your Doctor and not the Police.
or
When getting a little action, means that you don’t need your fibre today.
Or even
When an all-nighter, means that you didn’t get up to the toilet.
And definitely when you’re not sure these are jokes
WOT’S Next: Rtn Vaughan is the man of the November month, and we are sure he will delight and educate us in this very important Foundation Month.
8 November is our AGM all hands to the wheel please
13 November, Chinese Festival, ditto
15 November speaker TBA
22 Nov Fellowship Evening.
29 Nov Speaker TBA
District Stuff:
13th College of governors meeting Possibly Ararat, TBA
19, 20th RYE, Final Briefing weekend, Warrnambool.
22-24th DGE Training, Brisbane.
22.- 27th Zone Institute Brisbane.
We haven’t had any questions of late, what an intelligent lot you all are, so I have recalled some from the past.
When the DG is in our Club, how should you address him/her until you are introduced?
In times past the reference was the first name prefaced with Governor, so today it would be hello Governor Brian, but these days that has slipped away somewhat and just the First name is used. The DG will tell you if that is not a satisfactory method of address, this would be very unusual however.
And, while the District Governor is in the room as the present officer of Rotary should he/she take any precedence. The simple answer is no, The President is the senior person in charge within his or her own Club, this is due to the fact that every club is autonomous and as such the elected President is in charge, having said this when an officer or even a past officer of Rotary enters the Club a certain level of respect should be shown.
Well the Melbourne Cup has been run and won by the time everyone reads this bulletin, and we all read our Bulletin, don’t we MMMMMmmmmm?
Last year we held a blind draw, for the Melbourne cup, and had a bit of fun with it, we will do this again instead of H&T, will be a bit more profitable as well on past performances of the scratchies [ $2 per entry.]
Chinese Festival Meeting., last one before the event, Rtn Kim will be allocating tasks to us, but the assistance of the committee is required first, so there is a brief Festival meeting prior to the AGM at 6.00 PM, so would those good people make themselves available for that short pre dinner meeting, Thank You.
We also have a vocational evening being worked on but although the date is shown above as the 22 Nov 11 this date may change, so stay tuned we will let you know ASAP.
Finally for this issue an important announcement:
Rtn Dr Norman is to be fated, at the Entertainment Centre, Stawell, on Wednesday 9th Nov 2011, from 6.00 to 8.00 PM. This is by way of thanks to our good Doctor who has recently retired from the Hospital after more than 5 decades of service, We are invited to be at this function, and it would be great for us to be there en mass, to thank Norm, and to show our support for him and what he has given to this Town. So keep this in mind, it is the evening after the AGM.
And remember: “We don’t pretend to make bad men good, only to make good men better.”
Have a great week in Rotary, keep safe , keep well and above all keep happy, until next week, Cheers Ed.
